A GPS receiver usually takes measurements from 4 or more satllites simultaneously and calculates position from these. However, if the receiver is stationary, measurements from fewer satellites could be taken over a period of time, using the fact that the satelllites are moving. The earlier satellite positioing system, Transit, used a method like this. This project examines how long the receiver would need to wait in order to establish a good position for 1, 2, 3 satellites.
